1. It is better to make your Twitter name short (you can include your actual name in your profile so people know it is you!) Example, rather than including my first & last name, my Twitter name is @Av3rill (remember there are only 140 characters. If people are including your name, you will be using up some of those characters!)
2. School Twitter accounts should have short names for the same reason as above. Example, Alex Hope Elementary could have a Twtiter name of @AHE or @A-Hope
3. Keep your professional Twitter account separate from your personal twitter account
4. Change the egg! Don't let the egg stay as your icon. If you are wanting to create a cartoon for yourself, you could do so here: http://www.manga.com/content/avatar-face-maker and then take a cropped screen shots (Mac: command+control+shift+4) It will then appear on your desktop
5. Who to follow? If you are looking for educational people to follow, you could go to an educators list of who they follow and decide who would interest you. https://twitter.com/Av3rill If you follow someone but find you don't appreciate the type of things they are tweeting, it is just fine to 'unfollow'
6. Once you start tweeting, be careful not to "slurge' as in, don't retweet/tweet 6 things one after another, take pauses!
6. Remember, you may not feel others are watching what you tweet, but there are many people who are on twitter to just follow what is said.
7. For some people, they really 'get into' the Twitter experience. Remember, although it feels like a lot of educators are tweeting, there are many who don't, or just follow. Educators who tweet a lot may indeed make their living from presentations which is why they have so much time to tweet!
