OSX The Basics...
A list of very helpful resources (topics listed below) for navigating your Mac from B-Bajwa: Mac Fundamentals.pdf
From Jim's Files:Most people are aware of the iTunes App store where you can buy or get free apps for your iPhone or iPad, but did you know that Apple has another App store where you can get apps for your computer? The Other App Store:Once you launch the App store you will find hundreds of apps, many of them free. Some iPad/iPhone apps even have a computer version (Notability and Evernote are two examples). The great thing is that you use the same Apple ID that you use on the other app store to make any purchases. Once purchased (you 'purchase' free ones too) you can load an app onto any computer that you own. Check it out. There are some great educational apps here for all grade levels. From the Jim Cartlidge: From time to time your mac will let you know that there are updates that need to be installed. Some updates bring new features, others fix bugs but either way you want to keep your mac up to date. However, occasionally there may be offers to install software that you want to be careful about. Here’s the update on updating! Common Updates Here are the three most common updates you will come across with your Mac. All are generated by system software you have installed: Other Updates or Offers to Install Software (Beware the Unknown!) You may occasionally get a popup window offering to update or install other software. This sometimes happens when you are browsing the web (MacKeeper is one such software) Read the message carefully. If it is not a piece of software you own or are familiar with you may want to check it out before proceeding. Some software makers get you to install software this way and then ask for payment to activate it. The Update Process Once you have agreed to an update the process is pretty straight forward. Sometimes you may be required to restart your computer once the update is complete. You may also be asked for an Admin name and password to allow the install. You will see a window similar to this: Your FULL name will show in the top line. Just enter your login password in the lower line to allow the update. If you have any questions about an update, ask before installing! Prevention is far easier than the cure of a bad piece of software being installed! Want to learn more about what your Mac can do or how you can do something on your Mac? Apple has a great “How to” site that contains well written instructions and video clips on everything Mac.
