From time to time your mac will let you know that there are updates that need to be installed. Some updates bring new features, others fix bugs but either way you want to keep your mac up to date. However, occasionally there may be offers to install software that you want to be careful about. Here’s the update on updating!

Other Updates or Offers to Install Software (Beware the Unknown!)
You may occasionally get a popup window offering to update or install other software. This sometimes happens when you are browsing the web (MacKeeper is one such software) Read the message carefully. If it is not a piece of software you own or are familiar with you may want to check it out before proceeding. Some software makers get you to install software this way and then ask for payment to activate it.
The Update Process
Once you have agreed to an update the process is pretty straight forward. Sometimes you may be required to restart your computer once the update is complete. You may also be asked for an Admin name and password to allow the install. You will see a window similar to this:

Your FULL name will show in the top line. Just enter your login password in the lower line to allow the update.
