The process for creating a trailer includes several steps. As the first step, you must create a new trailer by choosing a trailer genre. After that, the process isn’t linear. You can add video and photos, and modify onscreen titles, in any order you like until the trailer is just the way you want it.
Step 1: Choose a trailer genre
Create a new trailer by choosing one of the Apple-designed trailer genres that comes with iMovie. A genre is a set of templates with a theme—for example, romance or adventure—that includes graphics and theme music as a backdrop for your own video and photos.
Step 2: Add a movie name, cast members, and credits
Add a name for your movie, then specify the names of your cast and crew. This information appears in your finished trailer.
Step 3: Customize titles
The trailer template includes a number of placeholder titles. Titles appear as onscreen text in your trailer. Customize them so they fit the story you’re telling with your video and photos.
Step 4: Add video and photos
Add video and photos from the Media browser to your trailer, or record video or take photos directly into the trailer using your device’s camera. If you add video or photos that you later decide don’t work, you can delete them and add different video or photos. In this way, you can fine-tune your trailer until it’s just right.
Step 5: Play your trailer
When you’re creating your trailer, you can play it from the beginning to see how it all comes together.
