At West Langley Elementary, we have placed a large emphasis on documenting students' thinking and learning throughout the year in order to build a digital portfolio of work reflective of each individual. Working with classrooms on student blogging has become a priority in order to teach appropriate digital citizenship practices, how and what to share about our learning, and managing our digital footprint as we increase interactions with local and global connections. As a result of this work with students and teachers, we now have 4 classrooms blogging full-time within our school. Here are links to their Kidblog sites:

Working with classrooms on student blogging has become a priority in order to teach appropriate digital citizenship practices, how and what to share about our learning, and managing our digital footprint as we increase interactions with local and global connections. As a result of this work with students and teachers, we now have 4 classrooms blogging full-time within our school. Here are links to their Kidblog sites: It is important to provide gradual scaffolds from the traditional writing process into blogging for both students and teachers. Below is a sample of the pre-blogging lesson that I use to connect students' classroom experiences with beginning to publish work online. This introduction to student blogging is based on Pernille Ripp's "Paper Blogs: A Lesson in Commenting on Student Blogs", which was published in September 2013. Blogging has afforded our students the ability to reflect on their own learning and to explore social interactions within a safe digital forum. These blogs are all open to the public online, but comments and posts are moderated by teachers, providing students with a secure opportunity to explore and learn while working online. Kidblog.orgis a fabulous way to promote and practice appropriate sharing and interaction online - a great way to teach positive digital citizenship practices from K-12!
