At Betty Gilbert our feet are now on the ground, and ready to embrace more technology within the school after a learning curve with ever-changing technology and a large turnover in staff . After years of working with aging technology, we have started to replace our old laptops with new MacBooks and integrate them with iPads into our classrooms.
Kahoot!! has been a huge success in a number of different classrooms. Students are actively engaged and continuously asking for more! Being able to integrate videos and images into the questions has assisted students’ learning in both English and French.
For example, some students, that are less likely to continue their learning at home, have achieved greater results. Through Kahoot!, they are able to receive immediate feedback and self assess on an ongoing basis. The program creates a competitive aspect that drives the students to achieve higher levels of success. Also, we discovered that Kahoot! can be used as an assessment tool, not just a time to play games. Teachers are able to do live formative assessment and if they choose, summative assessment as well. This aspect of the program helps to clarify teacher’s knowledge of the students understanding of each topic.
Lastly, Kahoot! has been a great to help our teachers achieve one of their main objectives - to learn more about each individual student. They can’t wait to do more!!!
As we continue on our journey at Betty Gilbert, we look forward to the future. The integration of more technology and faster infrastructure will, no doubt, lead to additional positive and engaging experiences in each and every classroom.
